AVID at the middle school level focuses on three core areas. First, students stay organized by carrying a binder. Notes, homework, and handouts are three hole punched and separated by class in the binder. The second component is developing higher order thinking and collaboration skills. This is done by students writing Costa level two and three questions and participating in tutorials. Lastly students are taught study skills by Cornell Note taking. One area that students are struggling is taking Cornell Notes in their core classes. These notes can be taken during lectures, readings, videos, or group discussions. To improve on note taking I would like students to share tips that have helped them or express some problems they are experiencing.
